University Of Texas On Lock Down After Shooting In Library

September 28th 2010

The University of Texas campus was locked Tuesday after a shooting on campus in which one person may have died, the Austin Statesman reported.

One person was dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo told the Statesman. Police said they were looking for an additional person in connection with the shooting, so the school continued to be locked down.

“I’m driving there right now trying to get there,” university spokeswoman Rhonda Weldon said.

Alicia Dietrich, public affairs assistant with the Harry Ransom Center, told the newspaper she heard the shots as she was parking her bike.

“I didn’t even know for sure that it was gunshots,” Dietrich told the Statesman. “The sirens went off about five to 10 minutes ago. The building has been locked down, and I don’t think they’re letting anybody in or out.”
